I have said a few times that I am looking forward to us all getting out and snowshoeing this winter, even with newbaby strapped to me. Jake apparently has a problem with this, as he thinks it is too dangerous for me to be walking around in showshoes with a baby on me. What if I fell? So he says no. I say YES YES YES when have I ever fallen? He says if I had been snowshoeing my whole life and was totally comfortable doing it then that would be one thing. But that's not the case, so he says no.

What do you guys think??

I snowshoe and cross country ski while babywearing. I don't do anything but the easy flat trails, but that's all Eloise is up for anyway, so it all works out. I don't feel any more likely to fall on a flat trail than I do when I'm walking around doing other normal things.

Oh, and the skiing I have been doing my whole life, but we just started snowshoeing last winter. Has Jake ever tried it? It's almost impossible to fall down, that's the whole point. You're probably more likely to fall while you're out running errands than you are snowshoeing.

My thought exactly! We only started snowshoeing last year too, but no one fell. It was tricky maneuvering with Topie cutting me off and stepping on my snowshoes, so I could see that being a risk, especially with Philip out there this year, but still.

I didn't even think of falling. I was wondering if the baby would freeze. I'm guessing it wouldn't but that would be my concern. I'm convinced that if you fell you would fall in a way that you would break your neck before you'd let the baby get hurt. I fell several times walking down the stairs with both my kids and always fell in such a way as to hurt myself but the baby was always fine. My mother in law broke her leg and got a concussion when she fell with my husbands newborn sister. She's fine. Her problems are beyond being dropped ;p

For me personally I couldn't imagine having the energy to not fall over with a newborn, but if I was well rested I might be able to work up to something like that. I'd worry about my baby having cold cheeks, but hey it wouldn't be the first baby in the snow and if you do it enough then I guess they become accustom to it?

You're more likely to fall walking in snow and ice *without* snowshoes. Um... that's what snowshoes are for.

And while Jake is being the worrywart here, I know you are a chronic worrier (heh), so I know you'd take it easy and get a feel for it first. Because, you know, that's what you do.

You managed not to have any disastrous falls while pregnant or carrying a baby in the snow and ice *without* snow shoes, so... I can't see where this would be an automatic no.

(Sorry, Jake! I'm sure I'll side with you eventually! It's bound to happen. :P )
